Unable to verify a payment

I find it truly concerning that Capitec as a major player in the banking sector cannot, in 2017, provide individuals with a way to verify that a payment notification is legitimate. All other banks provide this, as it is a crucial feature in preventing becoming a victim of *****.

I do not bank with Capitec, but an individual who does transferred money into my FNB account. He then send me a payment notification PDF generated by Capitec. This notification contains amongst other things, a notification number. Surely, through this number, Capitec can at the very least tell somebody if the notification is legitimate and was in fact generated by the bank itself?

I contacted the call centre and didn't get very far. They asked me to send through the payment notification and they would verify on their side. I sent it through and the reply that came back stated "Please be advised the payment notification is not legit as we do not have simplicity is the ultimate sophistication tagline under the Capitec logo and our notification is drafted horizontally". Turns out the notification was perfectly legit and the funds now reflect in my account.

I find it truly unsettling and worrying that staff at Capitec cannot even identify their own payment notification letter and how it is drafted, and then advise people that the notification is in fact "Not legit". It has caused undue stress on both myself and the person that sent the money.

I find it unacceptable
