This is how Capitec Bank treats a vulnerable client

R249 830 was withdrawn from the Capitec account of George Mutuwafhetu without his knowledge but Capitec Bank claims that he has made these withdrawals himself. Shortly after I helped our gardener George to open an account and transfer his savings there, 63 withdrawals were made at the ATM of the Flora Centre branch. All safety features were deactivated (SMS's, bank statements) and we only discovered this ***** in June 2022 when first asking and getting bank statements. In a sworn affidavit at SAPS Florida George confirmed that he never gave his bank card or PIN to anybody and never visited the branch until now or ever used an ATM. Capitec Bank however put all blame on this vulnerable client and in effect accused him of this *****. They ignored all facts which pointed to an inside job where bank officials could have done all these acts, like making a duplicate card, changing PIN, biometrics and withdrawal limits, deactivating SMSs and bank statements. The accused an honest man of ***** and negligence: I as employer and minister can vouch that dishonesty is not in line with this person which I have known for 20 years. Vulnerable clients can be misused like this and Capitec Bank did not take that possibility seriously. Unfortunately the Bank Ombudsman could not assist because the ***** was older than 3 years. They could not consider the merits of the case.
