Theft at Capitec Golden Acre Branch

My name is V Nojekwa, Cape Town.

On 30 March 2017, I was at the Capitec Golden Acre Branch, Cape Town.
The branch is located at the south eastern corner of the Golden Acre on the bus terminal side
(there are two branches within Golden Acre), next to the butchery and opposite the Rage Shoe shop.
My Cell phone got ****** inside the branch at approx 11:20.

What happened:
It was a quiet morning inside the bank. At 11:18 I sat down on the middle chairs, wrote a short
SMS and thereafter placed my cell next to me on the empty seat. All seats around me were empty
with no other customers sitting. For about a minute I sorted some papers and at
approx 11:20 walked out of the bank. (This is recorded and can be seen on the outside security camera tape).
I walked the 5 Meters across to the Rage Shoe shop and looked through their window at goods on display.
About 2 - 3 Minutes later I realised that my cell was still lying on the chair inside Capitec.
I went straight back but my cell phone was gone.

The Capitec employee (standing at the entrance) thereafter enquired about my distress and started looking around various cupboards without success. Other Capitec employees rolled with their eyes and avoided eye contact. Eventually the branch manager came and reported that she was not aware of the incident and no cell phone was reported ****** or handed in. She confirmed that the Golden Acre Branch has no camera inside the branch.
This all happened within a few minutes.

Subsequently I went to the security control office of the Golden Acre Centre. The officer showed me my
appearance on tape as I had left the branch. He confirmed that there are daily reports of theft at this
particular Capitec branch and he was well aware of things going on at this branch. He advised to avoid this particular branch because everybody is aware of missing security measures.

The questions to be asked:
1. How can my cell phone get ****** on a quiet day in the middle of a branch in full view of Capitec staff.
At least three employees had direct visual eye sight of the middle area seats. How is it possible that a cell disappears within 3 Minutes with no customers around. All Capitec employees claimed to have seen nothing and reported not to have seen any other customer walking past the seats.

2. How is it possible that a bank branch has no security cameras? Why was this obvious lack of security
not attended to as the branch manager is well aware of this fact?

I am truly shocked of the above and stopping short of alleging that this was an inside cover up and taking
advantage of missing security measures.

Regards from a very frustrated customer.
