STRUGGLING TO CLOSE CREDIT CARD
I was retrenched in Apr'26. The branch helped me and we sent the documents to the insurance, which delivered great service. My credit card was paid off the next day. On 4/5/2026, the branch sent an email to the CCS department to close the credit card. On 7/5/2026 a certain Mr P Blows of Recoveries instructed Credit Insurance Claims to assis with the query.
Up to today 18/5/2026, the credit card is still not closed. I ended up going to the branch again, which the manager tried phoning the CCS department, and P Blows. They just do not answer the phone or their emails. I have been sitting in the branch with the manager on the phone for more than an hour and a half. She was told they have a fire drill and they will contact her within 10 minutes. By the time we left (around 20 minutes later) she has not received a call. She eventually ended up sending an escalation email to her regional manager. My question is thus, if the manager of a branch is strugglilng to get hold of the "back office" how to we as the clients struggle just to close a simple account that has been paid of. Because of their lack in doing what they suppose to do, Interest and insurance fees were now added to my credit card, which I was told over the phone by client care, I am suppose to first pay.
The full debt was paid by 24/4/2026, and they put interest on it on 1/5/2026.
PLEASE CAN A COMPENTENT PERSON IN THE BACK OFFICE actually get their department to help their customers. This is ridiculous.
