Spam calls from Capitec call centres

I keep getting spam calls from Capitec call centres asking for a person who I have not heard of and who certainly has never been the owner of my cellphone number.

I have explained to call centre agents at least four times that I have had my number for 20 years and that they have the wrong details. They were requested to update the database.

I have never been a customer of Capitec nor have I ever requested that I open a bank account with the financial institution.

The calls have come from, among others, 012 ********** , 021 ********** , 012 ********** and more recently 041 ********** .

I sent an email to so-called ********** on April 25, and received a read notice the same day.

The following automated message followed:

An Agent will respond to your enquiry within 2 working days. Please provide the following reference number in all related future correspondence: Incident ********** 3

Kind regards

Capitec Bank

It is now May 23 and I am still waiting - and the calls have started again.

My concern is that Capitec will blacklist my account with MTN using my number.

I acknowledge your posting, and have referred it to Keshia Nomdo for immediate attention.
Feedback will be provided within 3 working days, and I trust that this situation will be resolved to your satisfaction.

Keshia Nomdu from Capitec Bank Complaint Management was a star - followed up on the numbers on my phone.
Turns out it is probably spam calls from somewhere else, even though one of the operators told me they were calling on behalf of Capitec, and I had a voice message telling me to call Capitec.
If only Capitec had responded to my first enquiry they would not have had this report on Hellopeter.
