Shocking Capitec!!!

I cancelled a funeral policy with Capitec Bank 3 weeks ago, but last week the debit order went off again. I went to the branch to get the debit order to be reversed only to be told, that 1, I never cancelled the policy and 2 because it is a Debicheck, they cannot refund me. The payment would have been for September, so how can they even think if justifying taking money for a cancelled policy. They also told me that I can only dispute a debit order if I had cancelled the policy within 31 days of inception. So they are basically saying we will take your money and there is nothing you can do about it. Shocking Capitec! Hoe many innocent people are falling for this an just accepting what they are told?

Capitec have taken 8 days to tell me that the person allocated to sort out my query is not in the office. I spoke to a manager called Elizabeth, who told me that they have no record of my call where I cancelled my policy and that they will continue taking off debit orders up to 3 months even if you cancelled the policy. I told her that NO insurance company works like that and will never give you cover for a policy that has not been paid for. My dealings with Capitec have probably been the most frustrating and unhelpful service I have ever received from any bank or insurance company. I shudder to think about how many people get caught in this trap of the bank continuously deducting money for policies which have not cover anyway. They also hide behind the fact that you accept a debit - check. They therefore refuse to refund any payments that were never due to them. I cannot imagine how many innocent and needy people actually get caught in the fine print which they make sure one will never read. I will be taking this matter to the insurance ombudsman, not because I want my money back, but because of the many innocent people that are getting caught in this process. The refund has actually become totally irrelevant. TERRIBLE CAPITEC!!!
