Retrenchment insurance

I have a loan with Capitec. When I originally took out the loan they told me that should I become unemployed, I will be covered under an insurance that was part of my monthly installment. I was on a fixed term contract at my place of work at the time.

In September 2014, I phoned them saying that I might not be given another contract after the end of November 2014. They said I must phone back in February if this was indeed the case and the Retrenchment insurance will then cover this loan. I've been unemployed since the end of November and have been claiming UIF.

Well, surprise, surprise, I forwarded my application to their Collections and it was turned down, saying that it doesn't cover contracts that ended.

So why did they give me conflicting information when I phoned in September ? Also, when I originally took out the loan, the person explaining the terms and conditions said to me that I was covered should I become unemployed. He never stated the nature of the unemployment. Being a contract worker, I knew there is always a chance of a contract not being renewed. If I knew that I wasn't going to be covered if this was the case I would never have taken out the loan. Not happy
