Removal of handed over status

Hi! I had a loan with Capitec bank back in 2014 which I was paying but later lost my job. I was never contacted with regards to this account. I later got an email that the account has been handed to MBD and later prescribed. I have checked my credit bureaus it doesn’t appear. I have contacted Capitec to remove the handover status but to no avail. I got the email from Simone Williams that they will not help me. How can I be held liable for an account that is over 10 years old, that I was not contacted for and never avknowledged. All I want is for the handed over status to be removed so that I can carry on with my life. Thank you!
