POOR CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE EXPECTATION EXCEEDED!
Good day If I was able to give a minus star for the service received today, I absolutely would! I went to Capitec bank, Westgate, Mitchells Plain today to fix some of my savings. I was received at the door by a very courteous lady. I did not look at her name tag unfortunately and am not sure if she was wearing one. I received a ticket to wait and as far as I could tell I was the only customer in the bank at that time (13:20). After a short waiting period, my number was called and directed to a slouching female teller/consultant. I was taken aback by her posture, and for a few seconds just stared at her and waited for her to straighten up. Nothing happened and I assumed she may be pregnant and jovially stated my business.
It was quite clear that this young lady was in no mood for a customer at this time. She did not introduce herself, nor say a single word! I took a seat as was customary, but felt I was facing a zombie. I kept my cool and continued as friendly as I possibly could muster. Zombie did not proffer an iota of information and absolutely NOTHING was discussed. I stated I would like to fix some of my money. I really did not want to be treated like a celebrity for fixing some money, as I deemed my deposit to be a pittance in real-world banking terms. But, I also did not want to be treated like a so-called Mitchells Plain, uneducated, low-life.
The closest we came to a decent conversation was the customary gesture to the fingerprint machine; then a mumble to lower my mask for a picture to be taken. I had to ask about the interest rates for various terms and absolutely NO ADVICE was offered. It was like I was dealing with a Shoprite cashier whose vocabulary only includes "bag"? I normally make use of Tokai or Blue Route branches, as there one is at least treated with dignity and respect. This young lady, LYNITA HARRISON, really belongs in the kitchen and should serve tea quietly and unnoticed. She really does not belong in a national bank dealing with bank clientele. I only discovered her name at home when I went through the final document received. At least at the final moment, she gathered some strength to say "this is your copy". I felt she should have added: " and don't come here next time and disturb me please"!
She should be trained not to judge a book by its cover and treat EVERYONE with respect and dignity. Although dressed in shorts and sandals, I am however a senior lecturer in Business and Hospitality studies and hold an MBA by the grace of God. This 'episode' today is actually prime lecture room "case study" material. That is about the ONLY positive that emerged from the interaction with this so-called consultant or teller, whichever... Needless to say, I will never ever do business in the Mitchells Plain Westgate branch again. That place left a bitter taste in the mouth.
