Pathetic Service

I had insurance on a laptop with Mercantile Bank which I cancelled in June 2016.

Me debit order went off in July 2016 and when I queried this, I was informed that it was too late to cancel the decit order and was insured up until August 2016.

My debit order went off again on the 01st August 2016. I had a claim which occured in July 2016, and when I tried to lodge a claim I was told that my cover ended end June 2016 (irrespective that I paid for July and August and that I had written confirmation that I was covered), Mercantile Bank refused to accept the claim and quickly refunded me these 2 months premiums. There explanation being that I was sent the e-mail in error (system error).

Only after much to and fro, Yolanda Govender of Mercantile Bank informed me that they will honour my claim with the certain conditions - that I pay them the excess of R1500 excluding VAT (The form I signed says R1500 excess - no VAT mentioned) and refund them July and August premiums. I can understand refunding July's premium but not August. When I queried this, Yolanda Govender informed me that my policy was only cancelled on the 16 September 2016.

So the cancellation dates I received were end June, end July, 08 August (Confirmed by Commrisk) and now 16th Septemeber.

I e-mailed Yolanda Govender to question this and am to date still awaiting a response.
