Oh my capitec

Dear Capitec Team,

I am writing this message out of deep frustration regarding ongoing issues with unauthorized debit orders and Capitec’s inability to protect my account — a matter that has now caused financial loss and emotional stress.

Despite having fully paid off my debt, the company in question continues to run debit orders against my account. These deductions are being allowed even though I:

Settled my account in full.

Did not authorize any further debits.

Was told by your call centre that a reversal is possible.

Yet, after visiting two different branches, I was told the complete opposite — that the funds cannot be reversed. This inconsistency in communication is unacceptable.

I’ve now paid twice and just received another notice stating a deduction will go off on the 25th, even though nothing is owed. Your staff keeps referring to “third-party debit orders” as if Capitec has no control. That’s simply not good enough.

When I asked your consultant, Nandi, for one valid reason to keep my salary going into a Capitec account, she had none — because she knows the system is failing customers like me.

I’ve been a loyal customer since 2013, but at this point, Capitec has:

Allowed unauthorized debits without intervention.

Failed to provide consistent, helpful support.

Refused to reverse funds despite promising to do so.

If Capitec continues to allow these unauthorized debits and cannot offer a solution, I will escalate this matter publicly. This includes:

Submitting a detailed report on HelloPeter

Taking this to the Ombudsman for Banking Services

Sharing my experience across social media platforms

I demand:

A full investigation into why these deductions were processed.

Immediate reversal of the unauthorized debit.

Confirmation that no further deductions will be allowed from the same party.

I expect an urgent response and resolution. If no action is taken, I will proceed with formal escalation and public exposure.

Sincerely, Lionel Wagenaar
