No debt record? No service!
I tried to open a savings account, but both the employees at the branch told me that, because I lived debt-free and credit-card-free all my life, I am considered a risk to the Bank, and refused to open an account. My being married to the same husband, and living in the same paid-up house in Pretoria East for decades, meant nothing. Well, I will just go somewhere else, or keep on living my life in cash. My student-son on the other hand, who has no income, no fixed address and no track record, was helped with a savings account just by producing his student card!
