New account not initiated correctly
Due to unauthorized debit orders going of my Capitec account I had to apply for a new account. Firstly I was told that I need proof of residence to close an account. Unless my knowledge of the FICA act has changed, this only applies when opening an account. I provided them with a bank statement from ABSA but because there were no transactions for that month, they would not accept it. Why on earth do they need to see my transactions? Am I not protected by The POPI act? Needless to say, I went to ABSA and got a statement. They could not identify any transactions and would only accept that as proof of residence when I pointed out that there were indeed transactions. It took me over an hour to open the account as the teller that was helping me was new in her position, and she had to juggle between systems. So I opened the account, deposited funds and when I tried making a purchase my transaction was declined.<br> I am highly antagonized as I am currently in an outlying area and the nearest Capitec branch is 180km away.Never ever have I received such poor service at a Capitec branch. And I say this as a person who was raving about this bank to get my family and friends to sign up. Nonsense
