Money Deposited/Transferred by Capitec to the wrong person

On the 25th of August 2018 I paid money (R1 000.00) using cellphone banking to my daughter's Capitec account 11 8 ********** which is linked to her phone number ********** . Later that day she informed me that she still had not received the money. I logged into my app, to check, only to find that the money had been deposited to the incorrect account. Which I do not understand as I have been sending money to her for years with no problem.

I went to my nearest branch at Capitec Elukwatini Crossing Shopping Centre to check, and lodge a complaint and request that they reverse the transaction, and also wanted to know why the money was sent to the wrong account. When I got there, they checked and told me that the money was deposited to someone by the name of Ayanda Yako, phone ********** , and account 14 1 ********** in Rusternburg. Both phone numbers and account numbers are different from my daughter's which made me even more confused as to why and how something like this could happen, as I do not even know this Ayanda person. I was then told to go back and come back after 7 days, they will investigate.

I came back after 7 days, of which I stay an hour away, had to spend more money, but I got to the bank, and was told that they called the person/Ayanda who got the money and they will deduct it as soon as funds go into his account because he told the Capitec consultant that he had used the money, and was not willing to pay it back. So I was sent back home and they told me that they would call me, for an update, which they did not. They said they logged a call with their head office, and I would get my money and was given references ********** 3 and 587 7or1 0862.

I waited another week, and no one from Capitec bank called. So I decided to call call this Ayanda, he hung up after telling me he owes me nothing and has since blocked my calls.

I went to Capitec again and the consultant told me that they cannot deduct the money from the client's account, they have no authority to do so, which was shocking to me as they had previously told me that they would deduct the money. I was further told that I must go to the Small Claims Court and lodge a complaint. That I would not be getting my money.

I need help getting the R1 000.00 back which I desperately need. Because I did not pay the wrong person, the bank made a mistake.. I need my money.

I have been waiting since August for Capitec to refund me, hence a review here. Having wait "up to 5 days" to get a call and an answer as to when I'm going to get my money is not only wrong, but unfair.

I received a call from a Capitec Consultant last week Tuesday, they requested my daughter's details (account and phone number used for transfer) and I gave them, they said they will call me back. On Wednesday they called and said my daughter's number does not exist, it has never been linked or used for her account. But will investigate further and call me back, it's Monday today and I have not been contacted. This is shocking to me because I have been sending money to her for YEARS and never had a problem. The worst part if that even after the R1 000.00 incident, I sent money to her between the 7-8th of December, R300.00 They can check my statement and make this make sense, explain to me how I managed to do that with the number they claim is not linked, and how I was sending money before if it did not exist. I'm spending a lot of money going up and down to the branch to try and resolve this. I want a refund on my petrol. And the time being wasted is just not fair. Capitec made a mistake and instead of owning up to it, APOLOGISING and refunding my money IMMEDIATELY, they want to cheat me and tire me out until I give up. I will not back down until I get my money. I want my refund TODAY!!!! I will be lodging a complaint with the Banking Ombudsman before the end of today!!!!
