Mercantile Bank Could not open a business account
App**** for a business bank account as at 12 March 2020 - this includes all documentation as required by the bank. As at 16 March 2020, the account was still not open. Numerous emails and telephone calls to the Service Manager yielded zero feedback, until the Senior Manager was contacted. Only after the Senior Manager became involved in the opening of a simple business bank account, did the Service Manager "wake up" and respond. The response from the Service Manager was that my business certificate did not match the company number as issued by CIPLA. After a day of panic and frantic checking by myself and my accountant, it turned out that this Mercantile Service Manager was reading some other company number on CIPLA. Neither the Service Manager nor her senior were sympathetic nor forthcoming with any tangible apology, and neither could either of these individuals fast-track the provision of the account. In comparison to another bank; it took just one day to create the account and another half-a-day to provide me with the requisite details for online banking, etc. Moral of the story, refrain from using these business banks that get sold off to other institutions, eg. Capitec Bank bought Mercantile Bank. Poor performance by the staff is possibly the reason for the sell-off. Capitec Bank will do well to fire the staff that came over and renew the staff of Mercantile bank with more professional people who have a sense of business and cognitive s****-sets.
