Lost over R170000 due to capitec not picking up *****ulent transactions

My husband is a client of capitec bank, On Friday 10/11/2023 we went to look at a vehicle and were ambushed by n bunch of guys with guns, we were forced into their vehicle and moved to a different location, we were forced to give them our app details, my husbands capitec account allowed them to do 3 immediate transactions (create new beneficiaries and make payments of huge amounts to these 3 accounts) withdraw our daily limit and cash send's and even allowed to update our daily limits, totaling to R213000 even after he deliberately let the facial recognition fail multiple times with each transaction.

This is a warning to all capitec clients, or people considering moving to capitec, I would not recommend at all, when asked what the ***** department does the whole day and why the multiple facial recognition attempts (at least 15 failed per transaction) didn't raise any red flags they are not able to provide answers, only that it is not their problem, the funds that were in the perpetrators accounts when it was blocked was returned but the rest totaling to over R170000 we have to write off.

DO NOT SIGN UP TO BE 1 OF CAPITECS VICTIMS!!! If you already are, I highly recommend switching to another bank, I know Absa, FNB, Nedbank and Standard bank all have ***** departments that actually monitor suspicious activity.

We have asked for written correspondence to report to the ombudsman but no one is able or willing to assist - Incident nr ***
