Internet ***** at Capitec Bank

Money (R105,000) has been drawn, without my permission, out of my Capitec savings account on 29 April 2020 at 10.17am.

I live alone in a security complex with all the necessary security and cameras to prevent any ******** entry. I have been issued with a Capitec Token key-ring device for entry into my savings account. What is therefore needed to get into my account is a Usercode, Password and a number that is obtained from the token device for only 30 seconds.. On the date and time of the ******* entry into my account the Token was safely at home under lock and key. At 10.17am on 29 April a person firstly increased my daily limit from +- R6000 to R200,000, and then withdraw R105,000. Later that day I tried to get into my Capitec account without success. It appears that my usercode and password was changed by whoever withdrew the money. I then went to Capitec office in Oudtshoorn the next day, and the only way they could get me to get into my account was to issue me with a cellphone app, and cancel the Token. It was when I got home and got into my account that I notice the R105,000 withdrawal.

After numerous attempts by telephone with Capitec Complaints Dept and Forensics Dept it appears that there is nothing Capitec can do about the case and is therefore not to be blamed. In my opinion - a complete lack of interest and empathy. The case was then officially closed.

A case number (MAS 4/05/2020) has been opened with the Oudshoorn police to investigate.

I was told by the manager of Capitec Oudtshoorn that it can be seen that the person who withdrew the money is a Capitec client. Surely it should then be possible to find out where the person was located (phone ping number) at the time of the theft ?

Certainly, unless Capitec can resolve the issue and prevent any further occurrences of this nature, it leaves me no choice but to close all my accounts with Capitec and find some other bank where my money will be safe. Up to now I have always been happy with Capitec and have told all my friends that, with the additional Token procedure, Capitec banking is very safe.
