International payments
I’m extremely disappointed with Capitec bank and their process with receiving international payments. I work abroad and I usually send money to my South African bank account and I never ever use my capitec bank account because I’m always afraid something will happen to my money (I don’t trust capitec). I recently sent money from my international bank account to my capitec bank account by mistake and i really regret!!! I’ve always doubted doing this and they just proved me right. Unlike other banks in SA, capitec is very *********** when it comes to international payments. I haven’t received my money!

17 Apr 2026, 10:42Hello, you are through to Tami, I’m really sorry you’re going through this Rirhandzu . I can hear how frustrating and stressful this is, especially when it’s your salary or hard‑earned money and you already had doubts. Your concern is completely valid.
Let me explain what usually happens with international payments at Capitec, why delays occur, and what you can do right now to get this resolved.

17 Apr 2026, 10:46Why your international payment hasn’t reflected yet (common reasons)
Capitec’s process is stricter than many other SA banks when it comes to foreign payments. This doesn’t mean your money is gone, but it often causes delays if anything is missing or unclear.
Most common causes:
Compliance checks (FICA / exchange control) are mandatory for every incoming international payment
Incorrect or missing payment reference (this is very important)
Purpose of payment not stated clearly by the sending bank
Funds are held pending documentation, not rejected
Capitec sometimes receives the funds, but cannot release them without your instruction
This feels like the bank is “sitting on your money”, but in most cases it’s a compliance hold, not a loss.
This needs to be rectified by the paying institute.
