Interest refund? NO INTEREST REFUND!!
During the National hard lockdown (level 5) I was approached by Capitec Bank to take up a three month payment break on my personal loan. With the uncer*****y of the lockdown and the effects that it might have on my income I decided to accept the offer. Naturally the bank would add interest for this luxury. Interest that roughly equated to R4000.00. During the preceding weeks the Bank made bold statements that they would refund the interest charged in full should regular monthly payments be made for the next twelve months after the payment break. This was but a mere statement and nothing more as I have subsequently paid back more that 3/4 of the outstanding balance during the first six month and am still waiting for half the interest charged to be refunded i.e. R2000.00 as promised. There is not much of an outstanding balance so the other half with most certainly not be refunded I'm sure. To make matters worse when you phone the Capitec Bank customer care, etc. nobody is able to assist. I was transferred to several different departments ranging from client service to collections, etc. only to be transferred to client services again. At this point I though I have been speaking French as noone was able to effective assist me with my enquiry. Out of frustration I hung up. My worst experience with Capitec Bank to date. If at anytime during the past six months you've changed your stance on refunding the payment break interest please boldly notify you're loyal customers. Loyal for now!
