Insurable interest issue

Opened a policy for my late cousin at Capitec and at claim stage was told that there is no insurable interest, as it was recorded on the system as parents cousin. As to where I was informed by a reliable source at Capitec Bank that on their system it will always be recorded as first cousin since they don't have the cousin option available.
