Insulting staff and inefficient communications
I needed to get a Client Account Profile (a two minute procedure) from the Capitec branch in The Grove Mall in Pretoria East. When I arrived there the bank was obviously quite full of clients and although several members of staff were standing around, staff at the desks were clearly very busy trying to deal with the clients. There was no member of staff on hand to assist with the selection of the correct item on the ticket-queueing system, however as I had done this before I knew the correct option in my case would have been "Enquire". When I selected this option I was printed out a ticket "Deposit A013", which seemed odd but I paid it no mind. I sat down on the benches to wait my turn. I was quite pleasantly surprised when my number was called much sooner than I had anticipated, before any of the people directly around me had been called, who had been in the bank before me. I proceeded to the consultant number which was called out, consultant number 8, however hung back a few steps as the previous client was still seated at the consultant's desk. I was then approached by the consultant at desk 9, who was not busy with any clients (even though the bank was very full), and asked for my ticket, and what it was that I needed. I gave him the ticket and said I merely needed a client profile printed and stamped. He then told me that I had the wrong ticket type for such a transaction and asked one of the other employees to bring me a different ticket. I apologised, and he said "Yes, you should have said 'enquire', you cannot jump the queue with a wrong selection". I then told him I had selected enquire, and this is what the machine printed for me. He then told me "No you haven't", thereby implying I was a **** or ***********, and was trying to jump the queue. I then told him not to bother, and asked to speak to his supervisor or someone I could raise the issue with. I was then told I could phone customer services. I thanked him (possibly sarcastically as I was quite ticked off at this point) and left. I have yet to phone Capitec Customer Service, however I fail to see how they would be able to do anything to help the situation. I believe reporting such an issue on Hello Peter, a public platform, would be more beneficial. The nature of the problem is not a specific one, I can get the information from any Capitec at any time I am able to go back to one. The problem is rather a more general rudeness and customer unfriendliness, seemingly specific to this branch, as I have had unfriendly, inefficient or otherwise *********** service here before, but not to my recollection at any other Capitec Branch. Capitec could do well to have a look at this branch's employees and management, as while this will not drive me away as a client, the experience of dealing with my bank there is akin to having dentistry done without anaesthetic while being urinated on.
