How capitec treat the old, illiterate

Good Day,

Please help on the below: (hope you be able to read my email as I am so livid)

On the 08 May 2016 I accompanied my mom to Capitec (Jabulani Mall) to open an investment/savings acc as she needed to invest her money for 6 months. My mom is inexperienced when it comes to banking and contractual agreements so I decided that we go to Capitec bank, as I have heard that their rates are low as compared to other banks and they offer a better return. They assisted my mom(please note that I was with her) and they advised that we make the deposit into her newly opened investment account. We made a deposit of R10 000 at the teller (as per the instructions of the consultant who was helping us) and she advised that the interest will be R200 and somthing (not sure of the amount).

So on the 11/11/2016 we went back to the bank as maturity date of the investment had ended, and my mom needed the interest and reinvest it. to our surprise the interest was less that what we expected. I then asked the consultant why is the interest less than what we were promised he then explained that R170.00 was deducted as a deposit fee. I then asked the consultant to call the branch manger to explain the R170.00 that was deducted because we were not informed or notified that when we deposit the money they were going to deduct the R170.00 deposit fee. The manager (Godfrey) explained that the R170.00 that was deducted was because the deposit was made in the branch and it would have been less if a transfer was done instead of a deposit. We told him that no one told us even the consultant who was helping us or the the teller when we were making a payment and I want the refund of that R170.00 to be done. He then told us that he is not sure if we were not told and will escalate my query to head office and will revert between the ***.

So this morning I called to to a follow up and he said he's been trying to get hold of number with no avail, I then gave him my alternative number. He then told me that they are not going to reverse that R170.00. I so not happy with whats happening because if I had known I could have taken my mom to open an account at Nedbank, because I told Godfrey that in Mar'16 I invested more than R10 000 at Nedbank and they didn't even charge me the deposit fee so for me to take my mom to Capitec bank I thought the offer was going to be better. This shows how Capitec treat its customers especially the inexperienced ones (i.e. the old, illiterate and the inexperienced), this is so not right and I am willing to take this matter to Radio 702 because what they did to my mom is not acceptable.

Your prompt response will be gladly appreciated.

Regards,

Paulinah 079 **********
