Have to Scan face to be able to make payments
Switched from the internet banking to the app to be able to make international payments. Suddenly when wanting to make a payment on the app they want me to take a selfie. Despite the bank asking for my prints, and taking pictures in the bank, and me entering the app detail, pin etc, they now want to use my face in order for me to make a payment. What bull**** is that. Im switching to another bank where I dont have to scan my face to make payments.

08 Jan 2025, 17:37 I am deeply dissatisfied with Capitec’s handling of my online banking issues. Over the past 4 days, I have been blocked from making EFT payments usin gmy capitec app or online banking unless I scan my face—a requirement I find invasive and completely unacceptable.I have contacted multiple customer service representatives, but they have wasted my time and money without providing any solution but scan my face. I was told by the telephone representative that I needed to visit a branch to re-activate my online banking and use my ****le. Despite losing valuable work time to visit the Jean Crossing branch, they were unable to help me. My ****le, which was automatically deactivated without my consent after downloading the app, could not be reactivated. Instead, I was told to wait another 24 hours after "activating" online banking from the app. To make matters worse, I had to complete an enf transfer in the branch itself costing more money aksi to do an eft—something that should have been unnecessary if Capitec’s systems and processes were functional, and not forceful biometric *********. This level of using force/********* to obtain customers to scan their faces is utterly ridiculous, *********, and violence as it causes trauma and unneccesary stress to be treated like a ******** and blocked from using your own money.24 Hours later, with my online banking supposedly activated, I am still being forced to take a selfie to access my account in order to be able to do EFT payments with online banking. i am literally being held hostage by my own bank!At no point was I informed that scanning my face would become a mandatory requirement to use basic banking services. I never agreed to such a policy, and if it is hidden in the terms and conditions, I find it deceptive and unfair. Not one capitec representative ever informed me of such requirements! I fully intend to report this matter to the banking ombudsman.I strongly object to this “selfie” requirement and reject the explanation that it is for my safety. As an adult, I am fully capable of managing my own security without such invasive measures.I feel they are using forceful measures to get law abiding people to load their biometrics for their future banking practices. Capitec’s lack of transparency, poor customer service, and unnecessary hurdles have made this an extremely frustrating experience. I cannot recommend this bank to anyone who values their time, privacy, SECURITY, or reliable access to their own money.
