Getting a deposit back is a hassle

Not sure if this is an Avis car rental issue or a Capitec bank issue.Bottom line is it ends up being my problem. On the 12th of December 2025 I rented a vehicle from Avis budget at the Cape Town airport..I paid a refundable holding deposit of R2200.00..The rental went well with both the service and the vehicle..However getting the deposit back is a headache and it should not be...You would think that between Avis and Capitec bank they would have this system sorted out. Avis state the following on their web site regarding the paying back of the deposit " When returning the car

Once your bank account has been debited with the invoice amount, the temporary authorisation hold will be released by your bank. As this was a temporary authorisation hold and not debited, the release will not be shown as a transaction on your bank statement, instead your available balance will increase. The time to release the temporary authorisation hold is dependant on your bank, and in certain instances it may take up to 30 days before it is released. Please contact your bank for any authorisation hold queries. " So I contact Capitec bank and there answer is : To reverse the payment we need a refund letter or cancellation letter from the merchant. The letter must be in PDF format and needs to advise the bank that the bank can realease the funds. It also says the letter must have the card number...and a merchant code and an authorisation code...and on and on "

THE AMOUNT STILL REFLECTS AS PENDING ON MY ACCOUNT

Come on surely it cant be that difficult ? Avis or Capitec Bank need to step up..
