From hero to zero

I opened a Capitec Bank account in January last year, to use as a savings account for excess funds. On Friday night I needed to use those funds to pay for a hotel stay. I cannot describe the humiliation I felt when the card machine kept saying "insufficient funds". After three attempts on different machines I gave up. Then yesterday I tried to withdraw some money at a supermarket, the transaction was "declined". To add insult to injury I called the customer service centre only to be asked a stupid "security" question about remote banking, a service I have never used and could therefore not remember whether I had signed up for it or not. The consultant couldn't assist me any further and I was left livid. I am just thankful that I had not yet migrated from my primary bank, something I was seriously considering, but decided to put Capitec on trial for a year. I'm glad that the true colours showed just two weeks before the end of the trial period. So today I went to close the account. I'm taking my money elsewhere.
