Fradudsters

Further to the below, we have just visited a Capitec Branch where the consultant is insisting that we gave the hackers the secret pin, we did not give the hackers the secret pin. Capitec how are you shifting the blame on the client?

My mother received a phone call from ********** this afternoon from Portia Simelane from the ***** department informing her that some is trying to transfer money from her Focus Account into her Savings account **********ly. In order to block the transaction, Portia requested that my mother do a cash send. While on the phone call we noticed that money was being moved from her Focus account to her Savings account. Portia insisted that we do a cash send in order to block the transaction, afterwards we would take the secret pin given from the cash send and inform the branch to block the money from leaving. Portia had every single detail from my mother's account which included her last 6 transactions and all her debit orders. We did tell her why do we have to do a cash send and she insisted that it was the only way. She told me that she would send an email to guarantee that the ***** had be blocked. I waited on my mom's emails to no avail. She hung up. Strangely enough when I called the number she called from which is **********, the number goes through to Capitec. I asked the consultant how the money could have been withdrawn if I did not give Portia the secret pin. She said that the Capitec App had been hacked.

Capitec why do you give us unsafe apps that can be hacked? And how does the "**********' number call from a phone that goes through to Capitec?
