Faulty Bank Cards

I moved my account to Capitec in January 2015 because of their claim to care about their clients. Six months later my card no longer worked. It appeared the chip was damaged. I would have to pay R50 for a new card. I may have paid it without question were it not for the fact that my son had the identical problem. Chip damaged = your fault = pay R50! Two people in the same family whose cards fail after 6 or 7 months?? The same two people having had other bank cards for years without any problem? Add to that the fact that the lady in the shop remarked that this is fairly common with Capitec Cards? And the branch manager himself acknowledge that it has been a problem. There was, however, nothing he could do about it - I had to phone customer care. I was promised that they would investigate and I would hear from them within 72 hours. Needless to say, I have heard nothing, but have had the R50 deducted from my account! Is this pure coincidence or are there other Capitec clients who have had the same problem?
