employment type

So I went for assessments as service consultant for the branch, passed it, went for interview passed that also, now they call me to verify the number of my reference at work to which I gave my operations manager's landline aswell as cellphone should she be out of the office, so aperently an ex colleague of mine picked the fone up as manager was out of office than suposedly gave a reference for me, so how do u ask a colleague for a reference when I informed who I was working under. So its been quiet for weeks, than I figured oh well I didn't get the job cos they being so quiet, so I called them myself and was told that final feedback will be given by my recruiter and than I waited , after waiting for 2 weeks again, I'm being told my recruiter is traveling, so now how come the other girl I was interviewed with started training when some of us are still awaiting feedback. Its just that I am unhappy due to the reference part, why ask for person to speak to if u gonna speak to anyone in the company?and as of today still haven't gotten the so-called feedback
