I was looking for a place to rent last month and I went on Facebook market and saw a place I was interested in, I then called the number went to view the place and deposited money into the person's account. I was told that I should come back and fetch the key as the person who was staying there is moving out. When I came back I was told that place is not available for rent and that's when I discovered I was ****med.
I then called Capitec helpline, I was on hold for more than 2 hours before I spoke to a consultant and the consultant told me he could identify the account holder that ****med me and he was able to freeze some of the money but due to the popi act he couldn't tell me the amount and the account holder.
He then advised me to go to a police station to get an affidavit and then go to a Capitec branch. I went to the police station the next morning to open a case and get a affidavit, I went to a Capitec branch afterwards and the consultant uploaded the documents and told me I should get my funds in a week.
I waited for about 6 weeks and no one called or communicated with me and today I got an sms and email attached below.
'Hello Thamsanqa Nkambule We’re mailing to let you know that unfortunately, the request to recover your funds was unsuccessful.
In this instance it is best to report a civil case at court or open a ******** case at SAPS.
