Can Capitec explain what is the delay in double debit for Capitec funeral policy?
I received an sms on the 25th October 2018 from the bank quote sms "Capitec: We apologise for the double debit of the Capitec Funeral Plan from your account. The incorrect debit & related costs will be reversed...". On the same morning I called the bank to advise when will the amout be refunded to my account. I was advised the technical team is still having a look at the issue since 25th. Now this is the second week and nothing has been sorted out.
Again I made an email follow up which I will quote from the email "Last week I received an sms about double debit for Capitec Funeral policy.
I called in last week to check when the refund will be done, so far I have checked my statement and do not see any reversal for double debit.
And another point I would like to make is that when a debit goes through you guys charge fee R3.73 will this amount also be reimbursed to my account?
I would like to see those fees in my account."
Now they started to notice me and they logged a call Ref: ********** 9 dated 31st October.
The very same morning I made a reversal on the double debited amount, now imagine this R20 was deducted for doing a reversal of the fault that the bank did.
Let's take a closer look on this issue; say about a million people who took the plan and roughly paying R50 per month that is equal to R50 000 000 (fifty million rands) that the bank made. R3.73 fee charged for debiting the account, that is R3.73 x 1 million people and that is R 3 730 000. R20 charged for doing a reversal multiply by 1 million people = R20 000 000.
Now this is just assumptions and not accurate amounts. The bank is making money out of the living, imagine some individuals who do not even look into their statements and just ignores the sms and think this will be sorted according to the email????
Till today 01/11/2018 nothing has come from Capitec about issue being resolved.
Is this another heist that will evetually notice after years and years that the bank made millions or even billions and kept quite about it?
Best regards,
