Debit Order Reversal/Debicheck
I took out vehicle insurance on 22 January 2026, with the first debit scheduled for the end of February and the policy becoming active on 1 March 2026. A DebiCheck mandate was sent to me, which I approved.
Unfortunately, the vehicle was involved in an accident and has since been written off. Despite this, the insurer proceeded to debit my account. I contacted Capitec to request that the debit order be reversed, as the car is no longer available while I am trying to resolve the matter with my insurer. However, I was informed that the bank cannot assist with reversing the debit.
I also asked whether the DebiCheck mandate could be revoked or paused while I try to resolve the issue with the insurer, but I was told this is not possible.
This leaves me in a very difficult position. If the insurer takes months to resolve this, does this mean I am expected to continue paying nearly R3,000 every month for a vehicle that no longer exists? Recovering those funds later could also become a challenge.
Given these circumstances, I am struggling to understand why the bank cannot assist in a situation like this.
