Debit order dispute

Very disappointed that you cannot stop a debit order. I have a funeral policy with avbob tried calling them to cancel but they’ve been offline for 2 weeks now. Called my bank to see how they can assist and the agent suggested I close the account since they’re unable to stop the debit order. FNB and Standard bank are able to stop a debit order why can’t you?! I guess the agent was right, I do need to move banks.
