Credit Application Declined Without Proper Consideration
Credit Application Declined Without Proper Consideration I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Capitec. As a young adult who is actively trying to build a financial future and establish myself in society, experiences like this make the process unnecessarily difficult and discouraging. I understand the need for responsible lending, but I also believe that young people should be given a fair opportunity to build a positive credit profile and demonstrate financial responsibility. I recently had a cellphone contract transferred into my name and have taken steps to assume responsibility for my own financial commitments. I also already have an existing credit card facility which I maintain responsibly, making the automatic decline even more confusing. Despite this, my application was declined immediately, apparently without any opportunity to provide supporting information or have my individual circumstances properly considered. It felt like a decision made by a system rather than a fair assessment of my actual financial position. Young people are constantly encouraged to become financially independent, build credit records, and participate in the economy responsibly. However, when institutions automatically decline applications without transparency or an opportunity for further assessment, it creates unnecessary barriers for those genuinely trying to establish themselves. I would appreciate clarity on: • The specific reason for the decline. • Whether my application was manually reviewed. • What criteria were used to assess my affordability. • Whether there is a process for reconsideration or appeal. I am not asking for special treatment—only for a fair assessment, transparency, and the opportunity to understand what factors led to this decision. I would appreciate a formal response from Capitec regarding this matter.
