Concern Over Loan Application Decline After 11 Years of Loyalty

Dear Capitec Team,

I am deeply disappointed by the outcome of my recent loan application. I have been a loyal Capitec client for over 11 years, entrusting my salary deposits, savings, and daily banking needs to your institution. Over this time, I have made significant deposits into my account and maintained my commitment to banking exclusively with Capitec.

I am a permanent employee at Sibanye, with a stable and consistent income. This is income that Capitec has seen reflected in my account month after month for years. In addition, I am in a position where loan repayments could easily be managed through a direct deduction from my payslip.

Yet, despite this, my application was declined solely based on a low credit score. What I find most disheartening is that other banks — who have no long-standing relationship with me — are willing to extend credit, while my own bank, which knows my financial history in detail, is not. It feels as though Capitec would rather let other banks benefit from my repayments than support a loyal client.

I understand the importance of responsible lending, but I also believe that after 11 years of loyalty, my repayment potential should be assessed based on the full picture, not just a credit score. I had always believed Capitec valued its customers’ loyalty, but this experience has left me questioning that.

I respectfully request that you review my application with consideration for my full financial history with Capitec and my permanent, stable employment.

Kind regards

Reviewer Update

Dear Capitec Team,
I am writing this with great disappointment and frustration. For 11 years, I have trusted Capitec with my salary, my transactions, and my financial growth. In those years, I have stood by this bank — never once imagining I would be treated as though I am invisible.
Recently, I lodged a claim expecting a follow-up, but days have passed with complete silence from your side. Not a call. Not an email. Not even the basic courtesy that any client deserves — especially one who has shown unwavering loyalty for over a decade.
I went through the trouble of downloading my statements for the past 3 years. What I saw shocked me — nearly R1 million has gone through this account in my transactions alone. Yet, despite this level of commitment, I am still unable to qualify for a loan. It makes me wonder: Does Capitec value my loyalty, or am I simply another number in your system?
This is not just about a loan. This is about the principle — the way a loyal client is treated when they need their bank the most. Your lack of follow-up and unwillingness to even acknowledge my history with you speaks volumes.
I expect an urgent response and a clear explanation of why my loyalty, financial history, and trust have been disregarded.
Sincerely,
Katlego Mabuse
