***** complaint
Capitec card was ****** - at first I did not notice until a notification came through on my mobile. the card was swiped and R5 000 transaction went through. I logged into the Capitec App and noticed that they tried first to swipe for an amount of R10 000 - that did not go through. Then an amount of R5000 went through. The card was again swiped for an amount of R2000 - that did not go through as it was over the daily limit. I immediately contacted Capitec and they stopped the card. My concern is that Capitec did not pic up the *****ulent attempted transactions and phoned me. The second question I have is how can my card be swiped, the transaction going through without a PIN - Tap function not activated? I then received a mail from Capitec ***** Engagement Centre that states: "When *****sters ***** money from someone's account, they quickly move it out of Capitec's banking system. We tried to get your money back before it moved out of our system but were not successful. I realise this is not the outcome you wanted, and we are truly sorry for your loss. We appreciate your understanding that we have done all we can to get your money back and the case is now closed. " My Standard Bank Card was ****** at the same time - I had to go to the Police station, do an affidavit etc and they are now investigating the case. Very different from Capitec - at least Standard Bank is taking the situation serious and trying to do something about it. I have been on the phone for most of the morning trying to get some action from Capitec - no joy so far - getting transferred from department to department - been holding on for 25 mins currently. They just came back to report that the complaint has been escalated and someone will be in contact - no timeline however. What to do??
This is terrible from Capitec and I will not stop this process until they refund me the R5000.
