Capitec.........something fishy
So back in 2018, I had a payment plan with Capitec Bank as I was going through traumatic legal battles with my estranged husband and both my daughter and I were left in a terrible financial situation. My agreement was to pay R 1000.00 per month. I did this. But then the excuses came in that there was no agreement in place (which is false and I requested each recording which I never received) or that they will blacklist me etc etc. I cancelled my debit order as they would try take huge amounts off my account which would cause upheaval to me financially with rent etc. They would also not adhere to debit order dates which also caused a huge impact. Anyway, there were arrangements in place for R1000.00 per month. Out of the blue, I got a call from Nimble Collections stating Capitec has handed me over due to non payments. Even my credit record now shows I have not made any payments in 2 years which is complete BS. So Nimble took over and I was pushed into an awkward situation with Lockdown. No salary for almost 6 months. Nimble harassed me so badly and placed me in a terrible position. When I investigated how the insurance policy works for retrenchment, I found out something very perturbing. When I took out the loan, I took insurance which was an additional cost per month. Fair enough, it falls away should you default, but I even if I did not default, I would never have been able to qualify for the retrenchment benefit. I originally took out a loan in 2012 and then had to take out 2 further loans but the original loan was settled. As stated by the insurance company:
• Our policy benefits include a pay-out for policies taken up since 9 August 2017- Your loan was taken out 17/10/2016 therefore you do not qualify. Please contact Nibble and request assistance from them.
This makes me wonder what did I pay for previously. If I lost my job before 2017, I would not be covered. Nimble refuse to assist. Capitec call centre says that they cannot assist because I am in default, yet I was never forewarned that my account was handed over with a payment plan in place. I had no choice. I was forced into this. Now I am unable to access information. I also requested the call where my estranged husband agreed to the loan in 2012 as we were married in Community of Property and Sana from Capitec Old Pretoria Road phoned him to get consent. This contract is also missing. I cannot get a copy. Something is not right here at all. I looked at another copy of the other loan I had and it clearly stated insurance on it. I urge everyone to please think twice before taking a loan with Capitec.
