Capitec *****ulent charges

It's such a shame to have to give a 1 star review. Because I actually love Capitec. I've only ever banked with them and they are super convenient and affordable to bank with. Until my account fell victim to *****ulent activity. I have apparently been getting charges to my account for what looks to be like Facebook Ads. It's not a recurring payment so these payments are actively being made on my account each time. 15 payments have been made, most under R100 which is why I didn't notice until two payments came off my account last week both of R200. I went to Capitec to figure out how to reverse these payments and I was told that unfortunately there's no way to reverse payments. The only option was to request an investigation, costing R80 per payment on my card. So what would be the point of investigating? Id lose more money paying for the investigation than what I've already lost for the unsolicited charges.

I asked how is it possible for someone to makes charges on my account when there are all these protection steps put in place when doing online purchases. For instance I need to confirm when an online purchase has been made by going into the app and applying my personal banking app pin. Whoever made charges to my account managed to somehow bypass this step. I was told there's nothing Capitec can do about this and I just basically need to accept that this might happen from time to time and I need to just stay vigilant.

So basically when I make a purchase on my card I need to go through all these safety measures of putting in a pin and even sometimes taking a selfie, but when a ******** uses my card they can just conveniently skip all these steps. And then I must just be ok with it and feel like my money is protected.

I'm actually nervous at the idea of continuing to bank with Capitec as this experience has left me feeling completely vulnerable.

Capitec, I'd love an answer as to how you plan to sort out this issue. You cannot possibly expect people to be ok with this and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been left in the dark in a situation like this.

Reviewer Update
Good day, thank you kindly for your response. I have since had someone from Capitec assist me with this matter. In dealing with this issue I've spoken to various Capitec staff that have left me feeling disappointed but I need to truly commend the person I've dealt with from your complaints department who has assisted me with this issue. Bandile was so absolutely incredible with dealing with this issue that just my interaction with him alone makes me want to turn my one star into a 5 star review. He has given me hope and confidence in Capitec again. His demeanor when dealing with a stressed out client is commendable and his constant communication throughout the process was so appreciated. I am honestly so grateful that he was assigned to my case and I'm hoping that you might consider taking it into account just how valuable he is to you company. A few staff that I communicated with could seriously take a page out of Bandile's book on how to deal with stressful situations.
So calm and precise in his explanations and I felt he truly cared about my dilemma.
Sadly I can't change my Hello Peter review but I must give credit where credit is due so I'll definitely leave a 5 star review on Google.

Super grateful to know there are people in Capitec like Bandile taking care of critical issues like this.
