Capitec refuses to use Credit Insurance to assist paying customers

I have lost my income due to the Covid-19 lockdown. I phoned Capitec Bank in March already because I knew as a self-employed freelance trainer I would not be getting an income during the lockdown.

I asked for payment relief on my loan and credit card, Capitec could only assist me on my loan and say they can't make arrangements for my credit card.

Then I submitted a Credit Insurance claim, because I pay it monthly, so the bank must be able to use that now.... But nooo.. they keep on telling me to ask my "employer" to claim UIF or I can do it myself if I pay UIF.

I am SELF-EMPLOYED and don't pay UIF for myself, I keep on telling the bank that an they keep on sending me the same response, ask your employer to assist you with UIF!!!!!!!

I offered to make a R10 payment towards my credit card, because that is what I can afford.... response that wouldn't be acceptable, a minimum payment of R550 must be made. So they don't even want to take the payments I can afford.

Now my credit card has been suspended, and the response to my emails stay the same... ask your employer to assist with UIF!!!

Why do we pay Credit Insurance then? what is that for if the bank refuses to use it if you really can't pay because you can't work or get a income during the lockdown?

Thank you as I just received another SMS this morning stating:
Capitec: Mrs Kruger, failure to may your credit card payments has resulted in a negative update on the credit bureau.

That after I have asked for help over the past 5-6 weeks and you failed to assist me... now I have a bad credit record because of the national crisis we sit in and Capitec failing to help their clients who pay for credit insurance....

I am not a happy customer,that I promise you!!

Credit insurance

The purpose of insurance is to cover you against unforeseen events or losses. The insurance cover is underwritten by Guardrisk and is compulsory for credit terms of 7 months and longer.

Our credit insurance is aimed at covering a credit repayment obligation if you're unable to pay your instalment as a result of death or disability, as well as permanent or temporary loss of income.

This means that if you have credit insurance with us and you are retrenched and unable to earn an income or earn a reduced income due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you may be covered.

But if you apply your don't assist!!! Very bad service!!!!

I received a call from Capitec now, still the same answer, you are required to submit documents from your employer and claim UIF. I am told it is my responsibility to make a plan to pay my debt... then why do we pay credit insurance? for what?

I am self-employed, so where is the help?
