CAPITEC - MOST UNPROFESSIONAL AND MISLEADS

Although I lost my job and had no income from 1 January 2020, I paid my loan's installment for January 2020 and February 2020.

End of March 2020 I could not afford to pay my loan and tried to contact Capitec Bank via email, facebook and messenger. Eventually on 6 April 2020 I got to speak with Mrs. Ntsiki and informed her of my circumstances and also that in lockdown it is even more difficult to earn an income.

We made new payment arrangements that I must pay R1 740.00 (instead of R4750.00) at end April 2020 and we can revise same end of May 2020 or pay the full amount if I am in the position to do so.

I asked her regarding my credit card and she informed me I am up to date.

I honored my agreement and paid the R1750.00.

On 4 May 2020 I received a sms from Capitec that I am in arrears with my credit card and I have to pay R272.00 into the account. I paid in R300.00 and checked my balance immediately thereafter.

R96.00 was deducted and I had a balance of R204.00 in my credit card. I transferred the last R98.00 from my savings account to have R300.00 in my credit card to utilise the money for essentials in the lockdown period.

On the same day, 15h10 the afternoon it became clear to me that my credit card is frozen.

I immediately sent messenger messages to Capitec (I was informed by Mrs Ntsiki that they can not give me specific persons email addresses and I can utilise messenger) to inform them what is wrong with my account. I need the R300 to buy food.

On 5 May 2020 I received a messenger reply that Capitec will look into it. That afternoon I followed up and received a message from Capitec that they apologise and will escalate the matter to resolve the problem.

That afternoon I rep**** that they must resolve it.

On 6 May 2020 I received a message from Capitec that they are glad I could sort out the matter.

It was not resolved and I sent numerous messages to Capitec.

14h44 I received a call from Capitec and spoke to Mrs. Mzano. She informed me that my credit card is frozen because my savings account is in arrears.

I explained to her the arrangements I made with Capitec. She informed that I am still in arrears for end of May 2020.

I told her my arrangements was made for end April 2020 and will contact Capitec regarding end of May 2020.

She informed me that I am in arrears for end of May 2020 and therefor my credit card is frozen.

I asked that they send me the recordings of 6 April 2020 and of today, which she said will be send to me.

In short: I made payment arrangements and honored same. My credit card gets frozen for an arrangement or payment I have to do or make 24 days from now and I can not utilise my R300.00 to buy essentials.

It took Capitec from the 4th to the 6th of May 2020 to come back to me and tell me so sorry!

I am escalating this matter to i.e the Ombudsman etc.

I state my complaint and must be read in my reply:

It is very clear that all my communications to Capitec have not been read or have been read and just been discarded for a reason (s).

To be decided by the correct forum.

As stated I have R300.00 in my account and I cannot buy essentials or food from the funds.

My account has been frozen from 4 May 2020 to 6 May 2020 (three days) and only on day 3 I receive a call - After I (as I informed Capitec before hand) receive a reply from HelloPeter - they will take another 5 days to give me feedback.

8 days that I can not use my only R300.00 in my account.

I informed Capitec via emal and my telecomms that I lost my job and income.

I have and paid insurance to Capitec (they took the money) in the event I loose my job and income and that will write of any loans older than 6 months.

I informed Capitec numerous times - in writing via sms, facebook, messenger, email and telecomms that I lost my job and income.

Why don't they assist me and still freeze my account, knowing that I am unemployed and have the remedy of insurance? Especially in time of Covid-19?
