Capitec keeps closing and reopening cases without answering serious questions

I have now exhausted repeated attempts to obtain a proper, evidence-based response from Capitec regarding my credit-insurance claim and incorrect employment information recorded during my loan application.

This is not a case of Capitec receiving one email and being given insufficient time. The history extends over several weeks:

I submitted claims relating to my personal loan and credit card. Capitec declined the claim after classifying a later independent-contract opportunity as self-employment or my “own business venture.” I formally appealed the decision on 13 August 2026. Capitec issued what it regards as an appeal outcome on 20 August 2026. I challenged the deficiencies in that outcome and raised additional, serious concerns. Capitec created another case on 31 August 2026. Seven days later, I have still received no substantive response to those concerns.

The most disturbing issue concerns information recorded during my personal-loan application.

I disclosed that I was employed by company in Papua New Guinea. However, documentation supp**** to me reflected an unrelated business in Stellenbosch and classified me as self-employed.

I did not provide or authorise that information.

On 2 April 2026, I immediately informed the Capitec representative in writing that the employment details were incorrect. I retain the WhatsApp conversation and related voice records. My recollection of the explanation was that my foreign employer could not be found on Capitec’s South African system.

Despite repeatedly raising this matter, Capitec has still not answered:

Who entered the unrelated Stellenbosch business as my employer? Who classified me as self-employed? What source or authorisation was used? Why was the information not corrected when I challenged it? Was my affordability assessment conducted using inaccurate information? Was the inaccurate classification supp**** to Capitec Life? Did it influence the later insurance decision? What do the application audit trail, recordings and internal notes show?

Instead of addressing these questions, I receive case numbers, acknowledgements and references back to an earlier appeal outcome that did not investigate this separate issue.

Capitec has also not properly distinguished between my two insured credit facilities. I have requested separate decisions identifying the policy, applicable benefit, premium, insured event and exclusion for each account. That information remains unclear.

At the same time, I continue receiving collection communications while the insurance and application-data disputes remain unresolved.

I am not refusing to pay my legitimate debts. I became unemployed, notified Capitec proactively, submitted insurance claims for cover attached to my accounts, made limited payments when funds were available and requested affordable arrangements.

I am also not publicly alleging that ***** has already been proved. I am saying that inaccurate information appeared in my loan documentation, I disputed it immediately, and Capitec has failed to disclose who entered it, why it was entered or whether it affected later decisions.

I require Capitec to:

Conduct a proper forensic investigation into the application data; Preserve and provide the application audit trail and relevant recordings; Correct all inaccurate employment information; Confirm whether the information influenced the insurance assessment; Issue separate, fully reasoned decisions for the personal loan and credit card; Reconcile the insurance and collection status of both accounts; and Provide a substantive response instead of another automated case number.

If Capitec does not resolve this transparently, I will place the complete documentary record before the National Financial Ombud Scheme and address the inaccurate personal-information issue through the appropriate POPIA and PAIA processes.

Capitec, please investigate the evidence and answer the actual questions.
