Capitec is no longer the bank for the people.
The first problem is I had to put one star before I could start. Capitec Bank does not even deserve one. In actual fact, they deserve minus stars. For a bank that calls itself the people's bank, they have no idea how to deal with issues that they themselves cause. It seems as if Capitec Bank is following all the other banks they said they were not like. My fiance and I have had issues within three days of each other. How can a bank when you bring a ********** transaction to their attention, want to charge me for the investigation? Over and above a new card. The two amounts together add up to more than the transaction amount? When I contact customer service via the app, they are not interested at all, instead, they tell me to phone someone else. Seems as if the bank that took accountability has buckled under the pressure of doing the right thing. I had the same issue with FNB, however, they never charged me to investigate. Are you telling me this is how Capitec funds salaries? I am extremely disappointed, Besides this review, I am going to make sure that I reach as many Capitec clients on as many platforms as I can. The people need to know. Secondly, my fiance received an international transfer, when we queried the amount they wanted to deposit, we asked why? At first, they blamed the sending bank for charging an extra 6.90 (Euros) as the amount sent was 43.53 (Euros), the amount they told us they received was 36. odd (Euros). They tell us when we query that the intermediary bank which is Capitec Business charges to convert the currency which is apparently R 50, then we get told that it is actually 6.91(Euros) plus R 50 to Capitec Business, then another R50 when it gets deposited into my fiance's account. Not only are these fees ****************, but they also had the audacity to tell me that the exchange rate they used was 16.91 which the euro has never been under 17 for the last two months. We asked for proof we still waiting. Honestly, does Capitec bank think if they say nothing it goes away? My fiance has actually requested his account to be closed, but get this they also charge you to close your bank account. There is a balance of R 21 in the account. The day he wanted to close it even the Manager never had keys to the safe to give it to him, only the person standing by the ATM apparently has the key and he was not there. The bank manager does not have access?? Seriously do you honestly expect people to believe that story? The people's bank I do not think so. Think about this a payment of 43(Euros) that comes to R731 and Capitec deny getting that amount and only received 36 (Euros) = R612 because Capitec business banking only sent Capitec forex that amount. Between all the Capitec entities involved, Business, Forex, and Capitec bank the charges come to R 218. This loss is excluding the exchange rate error. In short, Capitec is not the people's bank instead they are *********** people. Then today I hear the fees are going up by 30% ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! Who needs a new car or an overseas holiday now?
