Capitec, how difficult can Debit order reversal be in 2025
On Saturday the 15th of November 2025, I woke up (around 6:30 am) to a *****ulent debit order of R5692.50 on my Capitec account. Immediately I telephonically contacted the bank upon which I was told that the bank doesn't handle such issues on the phone, I had to go to the nearest walk-in branch. Further more, I was told to contact the company that had effected the debit order, which I immediately did after the bank call. Surprise, surprise the company that issued the debit order is a 3rd party to another company that I supposedly authorised to debit my account. Frustrated, I found my way to Festival Mall Capitec in Kempton Park, within the first hour of bank opening hours, where I requested a seemingly simple reversal of the debit order. My frustrations were multip**** as I was sent from pillar to post and they seemed not to know what to do even though the lady supervisor/manager sent some forms & my affidavit to their ***** department with a promise they'll get back to me. I'm still waiting for the ***** department to get back to me, more than a week later. The debit order has still not been reversed, without comparing, this reversal wouldn't have taken 5 mins with my previous bank hence I'm now kicking myself for moving to Capitec. If this is how Capitec operates, like a community stokvel, I think it makes sense to take my business to a professional bank that listens to its clients than ******** business partners.
I guess my fight just began and I'll not rest until the bank does the right thing by its clients and stops defending & promoting cyber ********ity/********s.
