Capitec Has Left Me Without Access to My Business Funds - Extremely Disappointed and Frustrated
I am extremely disappointed with Capitec and the way my recent transaction has been handled. On Monday, I made an Immediate Payment from my Capitec account to my newly opened FNB business account. The payment was processed successfully, the money was deducted from my Capitec account, and I received the confirmation/proof of payment. I was therefore under the impression that the funds had been successfully transferred. However, the money has still not reflected in my FNB account. I initially contacted FNB and was advised to wait because the payment would supposedly clear. I waited more than 24 hours and the money was still not there. I then contacted Capitec, who confirmed that the funds had left my Capitec account successfully and that they could see the transaction as processed. Capitec advised that they would investigate. Today, I physically went back to FNB to get clarity on the matter. FNB has now checked from their side and has confirmed that they are not seeing the incoming payment at all and there is no trace of the transaction on their system. This now leaves me with a very serious question for Capitec: If the money has successfully left my Capitec account, where exactly is it? FNB is saying they have not received it and cannot trace it from their side. Capitec is saying the payment was successful. I am therefore asking Capitec to properly investigate the transaction rather than simply telling me that the payment was successful because it was debited from my account. I need Capitec to establish: 1. Where the payment was sent after leaving my account. 2. Whether the payment was actually released into the interbank payment system. 3. Whether the receiving bank accepted or rejected the payment. 4. Whether the payment is currently pending, held, rejected or being returned. 5. If Capitec maintains that the payment was successfully delivered, I want the transaction trace/reference or other proof confirming that it was delivered to FNB, because FNB has now confirmed that there is no incoming transaction on their side. 6. If the payment cannot be traced to FNB, I need Capitec to explain where my funds currently are and when they will be returned or made available. This is particularly serious because these are business funds. I recently moved my business banking arrangements and needed these funds to operate my business and meet my project commitments. Instead, I am now left without access to my money while Capitec and FNB point me towards each other. I have banked with Capitec and have generally trusted the simplicity of the service, which makes this situation even more disappointing. Capitec's own information states that an Immediate Payment is intended to transfer money to another South African bank in real time and normally reflects within seconds or minutes. Capitec also advises customers to check the payment status or contact Client Care if an Immediate Payment is delayed. I understand that delays can happen between banks. What I cannot accept is having money deducted from my account, being told the payment was successful, and then having the receiving bank confirm that it has no record of receiving the funds, while I am left to chase both banks for answers. I am not asking Capitec for another generic confirmation that the money left my account. I am asking for the transaction to be traced from the moment it left my account until its intended delivery to FNB. At this point, I need Capitec to take ownership of investigating what happened to my money and provide me with a clear, documented answer. Where is my money, and if Capitec says it was successfully sent, where is the proof that it reached the payment system/receiving bank?
