Capitec funeral claim

Good day,

I recently lost a very good friend of mine due to an unfortunate accident, in which she left a young minor daughter behind that I have to take care of financially now in her absence.

She had nominated me as her beneficiary in the event of her death on a funeral policy opened with Capitec Bank on 1.12.2024.

I submitted the claim as soon as the paperwork was ready and was informed that the procedure would be that Capitec would assist by settling the death claim as per the policy document and any accidental double cover amounts would be settled once the investigation has been finalised. There is a double cover in the event of accidental death.

Capitec only made sms contact with me once and never again after the claim was submitted..

She fell down a manhole on 29 March 2025 and died on the spot, with no suspects as per the police report and death certificate reflects cause of death as "under investigation".

Please advise urgently what happens now, as the undertakers have been informed that any Post Mortem reports will be released only by the courts, which could take months or even years.

Regards Arlene Golden

Good day,

Kindly respond on this public platform as it would serve the public well to know why Capitec does this when funeral claims for accidental deaths are handled in this manner.
When signing up for the funeral policies, clients are informed that the initial death benefits will be paid and any double payments will be dealt with by the bank's insurance team.

However, same doesnt happen when claiming, then Capitec's bad reputation of not wanting to pay and looking for excuses to not pay, kicks in.
