Capitec *****

I've been struggling to get my Capitec accounts closed for almost two months. They've **** to me and cheated me so many times that I lost my last bit of patience and decided to close my accounts so that I don't have to deal with them and their terrible treatment of clients any longer. I paid off my credit card in one lump sum and moved all my savings over to my other bank so that there was a zero balance left with Capitec. I requested several times that they complete the account closure and provide me with a letter stating this had been done (I don't trust them at all after their enormously ********* behaviour over the years) but they've simply refused to do anything about closing the account. This means that they're still charging me all sorts of admin fees and account fees etc, so the balance is now no longer zero. I know from past experience (and a court case) that banks are not allowed to do this. If the client has paid the account off in full and requested closure, all charges must be paused and the account must be closed. The client is not responsible for any charges incurred after paying everything and requesting closure. It is ********** behaviour to continue adding charges for nothing and to do so when the client has very clearly requested the closure of the accounts. Now Capitec keeps sending me "settlement" emails with an amount to pay to have to accounts closed. They also send these right at the end of the day with a note saying "only valid for today" even though it takes them months to attend to anything (if they even ever do - which is often not the case). I work very long hours as a freelancer and I don't always have time to check my personal emails 10 times a day - especially not to see if Capitec is trying to charge me for things they have no right to charge me for at all. Capitec does not have to right to try and force me into remaining a client by refusing to close the accounts that I paid off over two months ago!!! I've given the details of this to my lawyer and if I don't receive that account closure letter within 24hrs of this being posted, I will take legal action against Capitec for their ********** charges and ********* behaviour; as well as laying a formal complaint with the financial ombudsman (forms already received after my initial query to them about this). Absolutely disgusting to try and **** people like this.

Now Capitec has gone too far. I legitimately feel personally offended and insulted by the behaviour of Capitec. They has now been trying to phone me every day this week (suddenly attentive when I informed them that I've handed the matter over to my lawyer) even though I've REPEATEDLY said that I will NOT speak to anyone from Capitec over the phone again. Every single time I've spoken to anyone from Capitec over the phone, they've **** to and then I have to wait months to get a voice recording just to prove that I was **** to! (Which has been acknowledged by Capitec - although they've still not actually apologized for it!) Now some woman phones me yet again and acts all surprised and dumbfounded when I get upset over being blatantly ignored and insulted yet again!!!
My lawyer has the forms for the financial ombudsman, all documentation relating to the problems, the latest voice recording proving that I was **** to multiple times in a single conversation, my account of what has happened, and all emails between Capitec and myself. The resolution is VERY SIMPLE AND CLEAR:

1. Clear the unfounded fees that have been charged to me between me paying off my credit card in full and today, since Capitec is the one who has failed to close the account as requested almost two months ago. I am NOT liable for fees incurred AFTER I paid the card off and requested closure. Not one single cent has been used on that card since I paid it off - if it has, then there is internal ***** because I stopped the card myself on the app, and the physical card doesn't work because the Capitec consultant in the branch messed it up because he was too busy asking me inappropriately personal questions to do his job properly - which was another issue that was supposed to be attended to, but ignored. If I find out that there is internal ***** involved, I will be laying ******** charges as well.
2. Close both the savings account and the credit card account that are now cleared.
3. Provide me with a letter to state that this has ALL been done.
4. Then... LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE.

I will not tolerate one single moment more of this absolutely disgraceful nonsense with which Capitec is insulting me. You are causing extreme stress and disruption to my work and life and you have no right at all to treat anyone this way.

Still not sorted. Capitec continues to add charges to the account that should have been closed. Now they're saying that the phone consultant gave me the incorrect settlement amount (which I paid) so there is still a remaining balance of R180 - which they are constantly adding to. I've proven before that I was **** to by agent on the phone, but that is not my problem. If they give a client a settlement amount, it must be honoured. I will NOT be taken advantage of with lies and deceit and ********* conduct. Clear the false balance and close my account.

Still not sorted. For almost 5 months they've been adding admin charges and service fees to this account that should have already been closed. Now they're sending threatening text messages from some work-from-home collectors to harass me for R79-66 to close the account. Which they say I cannot transfer, but have to go in person into a branch and pay it in cash into some other random bank account (probably the collector). It is ludicrous to expect someone to spend R600 to travel to the nearest bank to pay R79-66 in person (during a viral pandemic!) that shouldn't even exist because the account was supposed to be closed. I don't even actually owe that money as it is all fees and charges added after the account was paid up, but I'm willing to pay it if it means that I NEVER have to deal with Capitec EVER again so long as I live. I've never had such a terrible series of experiences with a bank in all my life and they should be ashamed of their "service" and the way they **** people trying to leave the bank.
