Capitec Employee Accessed My Personal Banking Information Without Permission

On 28 July 2025, an employee of Capitec Bank whom I was speaking to personally accessed my account information without my permission.

He sent me a OneView screenshot that contained my personal details, including my photo, ID number, address, and employment status. I never gave him permission to access this information.

I confronted him via text and video call. He admitted that he looked at my photo but denied “scratching” in my account — however, he still had no authorisation to view anything.

I reported the matter to Capitec’s complaints department and spoke to a representative, but was told I did not have “enough information.” I then messaged the employee again, and he confirmed he looked at my account.

This is a serious violation of my privacy and the POPIA Act, and I expect Capitec to take immediate disciplinary action against the staff member and provide written confirmation of the outcome.
