I completely understand why certain security features are in place. I know they are trying to protect their customers from *****, but the problem is its so over the top that the account holder cant even access their funds. On a few occasions I have tried to transfer money from my account to a new beneficiary (My Wife who also banks at Capitec). When you try to make the payment, the app wants to take a selfie. Althou the feature is good, it doesnt work because it doesnt recognise my face. The call Centre advised that I should go into the branch. So I went into the branch and asked them to take a new photo of me. I tried again and it still doesnt work. II have no choice but to go through the irritating process of closing my accounts and going to a new bank where I can have access to my money.

03 Aug 2023, 07:58To conclude this unresolved query. I did receive a call from a lady to try and resolve the issue, but im afraid who ever gave her the solution, didnt realy think it through. Capitec told me that the reason the selfie doesnt authenticate is because the department of home affairs has my wifes selfie on my profile. they want me to go que at the department of home affairs and when I get to the front tell the soul that work there about my problem so they can fix it. I think they are setting me up for a wild goose chase. logically, the Department of home affairs never took a selfie of me or my wife. if my wifes photo was on my profile then my ID book and Passport would have my wifes picture in it. furthermore if have used a number of DHA services to authenticate myself to confirm my suspicion but Capitec refuses to understand or acknowledge that its a system issue on their end. Here is why I believe the issue on their end. Let the readers decide what makes more sense. My wife has power of attorney on my account at capitec. her selfie and ID number is loaded on my profile. when they send a request through the DHA system, its my wifes ID number that is being pushed to home affairs instead of my own. this is why her photo comes back from home affairs. I suggested this to the lady. she disagreed but would get back to me that same day or latest next morning. I havent heard from her since.
So, in conclusion, I have already moved my money from Capitec. I will be closing my accounts. If you need a bank where security features are so tight that you cant access your funds, then this is the bank for you. If unresolved queries is what you need from your bank, then this is the bank for you. If you need a bank that acts like a dictatorship instead of a custodian of your funds, then this is the bank for you. Im out.
