Capitec Bank what a *******!!
1. I tried several times at a MyCiti bus terminal to make purchases on my Capitec Card on a Sunday as I needed to make use of the MyCiti bus on the Monday. The terminal kept stating transaction declined I tried this 5 times each time I received a notification of the purchase on my phone as well as the payment correction. Each of these attempts was for R 50.00. On the Monday all 5 x R 50.00 were again deducted from my Capitec account.
2. I also attempted to purchase tickets for the Sightseeing Bus online on the Sunday, twice the payment was declined, stating that I would be refunded on the website but the transactions were deducted from my account.
I went into my nearest branch of Capitec yesterday 30/12/2020 and was told by the consultant that I would have to pay R 70.00 FOR EACH transaction to have the payments reversed!! R 70.00 x 5 = R 350.00 in bank fees to have R 250.00 of incorrectly deducted amounts reversed due to some sort of technical error on Capitec's side (both instances took place on the same day) my other two deductions totaled R 796.00 for which they again want R 140.00 to reverse that's in the region of 18% of the again incorrectly deducted amounts due to an error on their side.
So in total Capitec want me to pay R 490.00 to have transactions reversed that are clearly due to an error on their side. I would recommend that if you are wanting to use your card/account for anything any more than the very bare essentials of drawing money or paying at till points then DO NOT USE Capitec Bank they make all sorts of promises and make it look like they are very modern and up to date but they are just out to make money and do not care about their customers at all. I would recommend sticking to one of the more established banking institutions as they are far more capable of handling real day to day banking transactions.
