Capitec Bank teller stole my money

On Monday, 30 January 2017 at around 16:20 I went to Capitec Bank, Hatfield Branch, Pretoria. I had R700 to deposit to my son. The notes were 2 x R200 and 3 x R100 notes. I got distracted just as I was called by the teller. I was distracted by a phone call. Because of the distraction, I gave the teller the R700 I had in my hand, but mistakenly told her that I was depositing R600. She took advantage of that error and processed R600. I only realised my mistake when she gave me the slip, when I saw it written R600. I then told her that I gave her R700. She argued that I said R600. I agreed with her but insisted that even if I had said I am depositing R600, I gave her R700. I asked her to bring back the money so that we can count it together. She said she had already put it in the deposit box and could not access it again. She went to speak to her manager who promised me that the money will be counted again by the security company and if they find the R100 extra, they will deposit it in my son's account.

When I got home that night, I remembered something about the event. I remembered the nervousness of the teller as she was trying to convince me that I had given her R600 and not R700.

On Tuesday the 31st of January, I called Capitec call centre and complained. I was promised that the matter would be attended to and they would give me a feedback within 48 hours. They even gave me a reference number - ********** 0.

On Monday, the 6th of February I decided to do a follow-up since they never got back to me after 48 hours. The consultant I spoke to this time said there was no feedback to give me as there was no information found in the system except that they would contact me after the money was counted by the security company.

When I called on the 31st of January, I had asked the call centre consultant if their branches had CCTV cameras where the tellers are sitting, she could not give me a straight answer.

I am convinced that even if the security company counts the money, they will find R600 because the teller took the advantage of the fact that I had said I was depositing R600 and therefore took the R100 for herself, hence she was nervous. I will remain believing that until I see proof that proves me otherwise.

If that teller could ***** R100, can she ever be trusted with millions of rands? Maybe my case was not the first and she has gotten away with it before.

I still want Capitec to reimburse me and I will not rest until I get my R100 back. I need help and the teller must be dealt with before she *****s more.
