Capitec Bank has no regard for its customers
February 23rd: I lost my phone and promptly contacted Capitec to inform the bank of my situation, requesting that my accounts be blocked to prevent any unauthorized activity. I even confirmed my account balance with the consultant to ensure no transactions had occurred after the phone was lost.
Subsequent Unauthorized Transactions: Despite my swift action, I was shocked to discover a few days later that my account had been compromised. Transactions totaling over R10,000 were made, including an R2,000 withdrawal at Pick n Pay and purchases at Total Sports and Truworths amounting to approximately R8,500.
Attempts to Resolve the Issue:
I reported these unauthorized transactions to Capitec Customer Care and even visited the Menlyn Mall branch in person. No one could explain how these transactions had occurred despite my accounts being blocked, and I was advised that the case would be forwarded to the ***** Department. No Response: Since then, I have yet to receive any follow-up from the ***** Department. Repeated Escalations: I have since visited both the Vaal Mall and Evanton Plaza branches, each time being promised that my case would be prioritized. The team assured me that I would receive a call with an update, but to this day, I am still waiting. The lack of response from the ***** Department and the repeated failure to address my concerns is not only disheartening but has seriously affected my trust in Capitec's commitment to protecting its customers.
